Vitalus had always been a fairly lively region of the world, filled with magic and all kinds of creatures. Masina was one of them, just not... Very lively.
She was standing on the top of a mountain, watching the sunset with empty, glowing eyes.
It was one of those days: her memories kept escaping her mind, missing pieces of the puzzle getting lost forever in the fog.
The floating skull never left her side, and the only thing keeping her half-grounded was the little tinkling her lantern did, swaying slightly on her chest.
It was nearly dark now, the time the restless spectres came out and the living went to sleep, while she stood alone, not living, but not dead either.
Clouds started gathering over her, her magic thundering with the emptiness of her mind.
A loud noise, not of a thunder, pulled her back from the fog, making her blink. Was... Was it a scream?
Unsure of what it was, Masina decided to take a look: it wasn't like she had anything to do anyway.
The storm she had summoned was still placid enough to fly without trouble, as long as you avoided the thunders.
She looked around as she flew over the forest with the bluish-gree trees, searching for the origin of the noise.
She smelled the air, taking in the scent of blood. Her lips curled back, as she dove down, following it. She landed without a noise, just a little clink of her lantern. There, in the little forest, under the tree there was a corpse. It looked like a small reosean, maybe a Chaser or a very short Runner. She walked closer to it, and sure enough, she saw the ghost lingering around its own corpse. It-well, he, was crying without stopping, still clutched in the cold hands of the fear and the death.
At first, the little ghost didn't seem to notice her. When he did, he cried out in fright, turning to run away... Without success: many ghosts, as soon as they formed, just couldn't leave their body. It took time, before they could.
It was like being chained to a stone, their regrets and fears keeping them there, until they withered away or their souls left, to roam free the lands or to return to the living in another body, forgetting all the pains of the previous life.
The Empyrian simply stood there, looking at the Ghost.
“...H-hi?”
The Ghost whimpered, after giving up on running, not that Masina was trying to chase him anyway.
Masina nodded a little, not sure on how to respond. Her fog was back, trying to steal more memories, again.
“C-can you help me? Please! I- I don't want to die!”
Masina looked at him, sadly. There was nothing that she could have done to reverse his death. She shook her head, and the Ghost started whimpering and crying again.
“...What I can do, is to put your regrets to rest.”
She said, in the end. It was a pitiful sight, the little Ghost crying on his own body.
The Ghost nodded, trying to wipe away tears from his fur.
“Please! The... The reosean that killed m-me was my friend... Or at least, I thought he was. He took something very important from me! Please, please take it back. I do not want him to have it!”
He begged, even when Masina had already told him that she was going to help.
Masina nodded again.
“Very well. What is it that he took?”

The Empyrian soared in the sky after that, never flinching even when the thunder caressed her wings. Those were her thunders, her magic, after all.
She had to look for a white and grey Empyrian, that took a pocket watch. It wasn't that important, as a watch its value was near to nothing, but the Ghost really wanted it back.
She closed her glowing eyes, feeling the storm in her wings, in her bones.
She could use the rain and the thunders to feel the other Empyrian, if he was flying.
Sure enough, the Empyrian was not too far from her, flying in a distressed mess in the storm.
Masina flared her wings, taking the winds to raise her speed. The skull that floated around her followed as if pulled by an invisible string, while her lantern made all sorts of noise while being whipped by the wind.
And finally, she caught sight of him: the Empyrian, still dirty with blood, was trying to flee from the scene.
Masina was going to stop him. She nearly forgot why, but she trusted her instincts: that Empyrian had to be stopped.
She roared, a hollow sound that was more a scream from the undeads than a proper roar from a Empyrian, then dove, claws reaching for the killer.
“AAAAAH! WHAT THE ORIS?!”
But Masina did not answer the various screams of the other Empyrian, who kept asking why she was hunting him down.
How could he be this dense? He had blood all over himself, and a pocket watch clutched in his talons. She could see even the black fur of the little Ghost still stuck between his fangs. She felt her throat close, a familiar tingling all over her body.
She whispered, in her mind: “Be prepared.”
Then, she released the strongest thunder she could. Green sparks ran along her wings, tail, even her mane, until it reached her maw. The sparks grew in whips of electricity, then in a powerful thunder that hit the killer right in the chest.
The enemy groaned, the thunders stopping his muscles from moving.
Masina readied her talons, and with still the residual electricity dancing on her body, she pounced the Empyrian, grabbing the pocket watch and then seeing him go down, like a fallen leaf in Fall.
She watched, her mind empty.
Then she turned, flying back to where the little Ghost had been.

It took a while to remember the way to the little Ghost, but finally there she was.
The ghost was still looking at his own body, but it had stopped crying. Maybe, he would cry later. Or maybe, getting back the watch was going to send his soul on a journey to a new life.
What it would be of the ghost didn't particularly matter to her.
She landed, and the storm slowly receded, leaving only sparks of green lighting on her fur.
The little Ghost raised his head, smiling a little in seeing how she had been able to recover his watch. Masina walked closer, placing the tiny object on the body's side.
The ghost sighed.
“Thank you... I appreciated your help.”
He whispered, then slowly he dissolved. Apparently, the little watch that had carved “from your granma” on the metal had been truly important to him, to the point that having it taken away had been his only regret.
Masina stared at the body, then her glowing eyes blinked.
She found herself on the top of a mountain, watching the dawn. How she was able to reach that place, mattered not.
She felt peace, and let the storm turn into a gentle rain that was going to cleanse the forest.
