Ethel felt the golden rocks disappear from right under her. She couldn't quite tell what was going on, only that it wasn't good. The haedian's snout wrinkled into a snarl. "So you ARE cheating!" "No! That's not me! I can't use magic!" Ethel tried to explain. The haedian reared back and slammed his paws down on either side of her. He brought muzzle close to hers. "I've been watching you and that runner of yours. I've seen enough!" He grabbed Ethel by the scruff and dragged off. "Ethel! Fight back!" Mendras could barely get the words out but it was already too late. He could no longer see her.

Safe in her shadowed world, Kinosa watched the leftover competition. She had no need to actively watch Whirl; she could see him out of the corner of her eyes, and his powers had proven time and time again that no harm would ever befall him. Pity the puller didn't have a clue, as his continued screeches could attest. Sharp teeth gleamed in her crown's pale purple light, smile pulled wide as she spotted her chance. She nimbly gathered the scattered nuggets from Ethel's pile while the fight raged on, noting with growing satisfaction that most, if not all, of the precious ore was currently sitting primly beside her, ready to be delivered to Whirl as soon as the time was right. This game was *hers*.

A large haedian strutted towards Ethel, his eyes laser focused on her pile. She shrank under his shadow. Here was a real challenge. "Ethel! Don't fight! Just--" Mendras's shout was cut off as he took a blow to the face. "Don't listen to him, girlie." The haedian rumbled. He took a few steps toward her. "You got a big pile there. That means you can defend yourself, can't you?" This was supposed to be a fun free-for-all tournament but it more like life-or-death to Ethel. He stopped a few paces from her and crouched low. Though her legs felt weak, Ethel did the same, or as best as she could with her prothesis. As he circled her, she tried to find a way out of this. Bargaining wouldn't get her anywhere neither would forming an alliance. This clan would probably take that as an insult and this haedian was looking for a physical fight. She stole a glance at Mendras, wondering just how long she could stall for him. She spotted his tail in the shifting mass of bodies before the large haedian was upon her. With a yelp, she tried stepping back but the swipe caught her chest and pushed her back further. She stumbled backward, scattering the rocks.

Naros whirled around at Mendras' shout and was met by Zarod's mighty figure as she barreled toward him, thrill glinting in her eyes. His own widened for a fraction before he closed them as he ducked, feeling the wind rush past as the swipe she'd aimed at him shot harmlessly overhead. The headian snickered as she regained her balance from the lack of expected contact. "You're quite the slippery one, aren't you?" Zarod said as she slowly circled the edge of the roaring crowd. It was not quite a predatory slither—her confident posture lacking any hint of deception, though Naros gulped just the same. "Come now, face me!" She continued, and his heart sang like a cornered prey's. "Show me your strength!" she lunged and weaved and swiped, and yet the bumbling puller kept avoiding her strikes by a hair's breadth, looking for all the world like he had no idea how he was managing this feat of agility. "Are you mocking me, land-dweller?!" she bellowed, affronted. "I'm really not!" he squeaked back, feeling way out of his depth as he dodged another swing. The ex-merchant may have been built for power, but he was anything but and wouldn't know how to fight back effectively, even if he wanted to. Yet, he luckily remained as untouchable as ever. - Unbeknownst to the both of them, every time the mighty headian came close to the flustered vayron, Kinosa was putting her own plan into action. While she still had no intention of showing herself, preferring her usual hit-and-run operations, she figured the event's price may be worth more than the alluring gold they were using as mere tokens. As such, she was using her unique position to stock-pile as many as she could, stealing them from where they'd been dropped - the annoyed Zarod too preoccupied to notice that her own pile was diminishing by the second. From her dimension, the thieving chaser could also see through the little lady's shadow that both of Naros' temporary companions had an impressive haul of their own, and she'd be hard-pressed to tell who had more at the moment. She'd have to rectify that.

Mendras fell onto his back with an _oof_, dropping the golden stones he was holding. Ethel quickly swiped them away and dropped them where she was keeping her pile. "Well done!" He grinned. Ethel was not. She and Mendras had been engaged in one on one duels for most of the tournament. Every time, Mendras would conveniently lose his footing, look away or fumble his golden rocks in front of her so she could take them from him. "This isn't right," She said. She looked around. There were only a few haedians left and though they were too busy to notice her, the ones outside the arena _must_ have caught onto their plan. "It's right until they find out and I'm going to make sure they don't." Mendras winked at her and the two started circling again. "You need to win this." There was a shout as a haedian rushed by. Mendras growled at them but, luckily, their target wasn't Ethel. Instead, it was Naros who was receiving special attention from the mighty clan leader Zaros. How the clumsy puller managed to stay in the fight this long was perplexing to most. The haedian swooped in behind Naros's back but Mendras was already on the their tail, dragging them backwards and roughing them up for interfering with the fight. "Watch your back, Naros!" Mendras shouted. "I can't look after you too!"
