The order's clan pt3
The air inside the crucible reeked of rot and iron, an awful amalgamation that clung to every breath the four reos took, coating their lungs. Blood smeared the ground below their feet in dark streaks and pools, creating a biohazard situation beneath their paws. Red crystals jutted from the walls, their color close to blood, their size and position optimal to have someone fall on them and hurt them badly.
Cailu stepped forward, his posture tense but purposeful. His wings shifted slightly as he prepared to fight Shira. He surveyed the space. The others strayed apart from him knowing they would be making it worse instead of helping if they stayed with him.
A deep, guttural growl interrupted any discourse they could have started, and Shira’s lips curled into a sinister smile. “You’re daring, coming here proclaiming to worship Oris, Cailu. But you’re also a fool. Prepare yourself to die.”
Jeon-e darted to Cailu’s side, a last effort to calm her worry. “Are you sure about this?” she whispered urgently. “You’re the only one who knows how to fight. We won't be much help. We can retreat, we don't have to follow through with this.”
"Look me in the eyes. I won’t lose,” Cailu replied, his voice steady. “Stay back. Keep safe. I'll knock her down.”
Jeon-e hesitated but nodded, retreating to join the others. Mer fumbled with the pouch strapped to his side, pulling out a small flask filled with a shimmering blue liquid. “We’ll bring you healing potions,” he shouted, his voice shaking. “Just... try to not need them, ok?”
Cailu snorted, the request absurd. “I’ll do my best.”
Shira wasted no time, so well she started charging while Cailu was still distracted. She lunged forward, her horns aimed directly at Cailu. He dodged to the side, his wings unfurling to propel him away from the strike. The ground where he had stood had been slippery, so Shira went sliding a couple feet towards the three vayrons, who stepped back more and circled her. Cailu countered with a swift slash of his claws, aiming for her exposed flank, but Shira twisted gracefully, her wings and size shielding her.
The clash was brutal and unrelenting. Shira’s horns gleamed as they struck again and again, each blow sending sparks flying as they collided with the rocky walls or the pavement. Cailu was considering flying, but soon realized it would put him in the range of those horns more often, so we used his wings to do sharp turns and only that. Shira was instead using her wings as powerful and dangerous arms too, trying to get Cailu to smash into one of them.
From the sidelines, Jeon-e, Mer, and Valentine watched with bated breath. Jeon-e tracked every movement, her heart racing with every near-miss. Valentine paced anxiously, his tail flicking in agitation, a potion in his mouth to keep the panic at bay. Mer clutched a second potion tightly, ready to spring forward the moment Cailu seemed to need one.
Cailu managed to land a solid hit, his claws raking across Shira’s shoulder. She let out a roar of pain, her eyes alit with fury. “You think you can defeat me?” she said, blood dripping from her wound all over her arm. “You’re nothing, Cailu, a disgrace. You're weak and you should not hold the role you have.”
“Your idea of me doesn't affect me, Shira," Cailu replied, his voice steady despite his labored breathing. “I hold my position because i proved myself to who mattered, i don't need to prove myself to you..”
Shira lunged again, her horns catching the edge of Cailu’s wing. He grunted in pain, an awful and pained sound, as the sharp bone tore through his flesh, but he didn’t falter. Instead, he used the momentum to spin around, landing a powerful kick to her own wing and unbalancing her. Shira staggered, but her fury only seemed to grow.
“Cailu!” Mer’s voice rang out. “Here!”
Cailu turned just in time to see the potion flying toward him. He caught it deftly in his jaws and retreated, running back to open the vial and drinking it down. The liquid coursed through him in an instant, the pain in his wing lessening, his strength returning. He nodded his thanks to Mer before refocusing on the battle, closing the distance once again so that Shira would not think to go for them.
The fight continued, each clash of claws and horns echoing through the cavern. Shira’s attacks grew more aggressive, her movements more erratic. She was powerful, but Cailu’s effort, as well as the many potions the three vayrons were throwing at him, were doing their job. He exploited every opening, his strikes precise and relentless, and was tiring shiva like nothing.
“You can do it, Cailu!” Mer called, his voice filled with both fear and hope. “We believe in you!”
Valentine joined in, his usually stoic demeanor giving way to shameless hope.
Jeon-e kept quiet, too worried to be able to enjoy the small lead Cailu seemed to have.
With a final, thunderous roar, Cailu unleashed his full strength. He surged forward, his wings opening to help him glide towards her, his claws striking Shira’s chest with devastating force and his teeth landing under her face. She let out a choked cry, her wings faltering as she stumbled backward. Blood poured from her wounds, staining the ground beneath her.
Shira collapsed, her breaths ragged. She was bleeding profusely. She glared up at Cailu, her eyes filled with rage.
"Go to hell" she said and soon fainted.
(they gave her a health potion, afterwards, and treated her injuries)
