[2913] [13757] Scram! [Watchers p3]

Under the quiet, dim glow of the cavern’s painted stars, Pyrrah’s eyes scanned his surroundings. Hours into their vigil he was beginning to feel every muscle and ache from the jumping and leaping. He felt it catching up so suddenly. But he forced himself to stay alert, knowing this night was meant to be a test, even if it had been nothing but quiet, dark and kind of boring so far beyond the view. Rock paper scissors hadn’t made the night go any faster either. When Theneras had felt enough courage to take his paws off the ground, that was. The chaser had suggested that he’d just call out his pick, but seeing as they were meant to not only see but listen out for any dangers, they had soon decided it was not the best course of action.

Then, suddenly, something flickered in the periphery of the chasers’ vision—just a shadow at first, creeping along the far wall. Pyrrah’s eyes narrowed, locking onto the figure slinking carefully along the stone face. The intruder moved with a practised silence, barely making a sound as he edged closer. Pyrrah’s heart quickened; this was no ordinary animal wandering the Beneath. This was what they were on the job for.

Pyrrah-Vos~ “Hey, Then–”

He whispered coarsely to his watching companion, nudging him just enough to break his focus on the night watch without drawing attention from their target. The other chaser looked up from where he’d started dozing off maybe juuuust a little, an eye opening to stare and await for what the disturbance was.

Pyrrah-Vos~ “We’ve got company. Someone’s sneaking around over by the wall.”

That, ofcourse, made Theneras feel like ice was crashing through his warm blooded veins. Instantly, he felt a shiver go up his spine knowing now that 1) they were up here, alone. 2) something or someone they didn’t know was trying to do… something. 3) how the hell were they going to stop said someone? Pyrrah sank lower, belly to the floor, keeping himself out of sight as he mentally ran through his options. He wasn’t exactly a guard. They could try to handle this quietly, maybe catch the intruder off guard before he reached the entry. But as Pyrrah watched the intruder’s movements—smooth and almost ghostly—he knew this wouldn’t be simple. Whoever this was, they were no novice. He hoped this wouldn’t become difficult, considering he and Theneras were hardly large and imposing watchmen.

Pyrrah-Vos~ “We could cut him off?? Or we could wait, see what he’s after… But something tells me he’s not here for the view. Suspicious.”

Theneras- “I say we sound the alarm for someone more qualified to take over-”

The chaser started, hesitantly sitting up to have a look at said person that was spotted and narrowing his eyes in thought. It wasn’t like the two of them could really… glide down and deal with it, after all.

Theneras- “That’s what Watchers do, right? They watch. They don’t strike me as the types to go out and fight something they don’t know.”

Naturally, it was both a genuine observation of the clan, and a reluctance to leave their current position.

Theneras- “Maybe, if anything, we can scare them off? Like… yelling at them. Or firing some magic light? That’ll grab their attention, but also from any other Watcher around, right?”

Pyrrah-Vos~ “Yeah, but if we just scare them off, they’ll probably come back as soon as we’re not here. You really want to get blamed for that? ‘Cause I don’t…”

He kept his voice low, eyes locked on the shadow creeping along the far wall. Whoever this was, they weren’t just wandering around aimlessly. The way they moved, so deliberate, so quiet—it made his fur prickle. They knew what they were doing. He hated it.

Pyrrah-Vos~ “Besides, if we do nothing, it’s gonna look like we slept through the whole shift– which you nearly did, but still..”

Theneras- “I did not sleep. Trust me, if I felt comfortable enough to do so, I would have.”

Pyrrah couldn’t really blame Theneras for how he felt—he wasn’t exactly eager to get into a fight either. But what were they supposed to do? Just sit there and hope for the best, throwing shots, calling names? He shot Theneras a half-smile, trying to look more confident than he felt. The truth was, his heart was pounding so hard he was sure the intruder could hear it from all the way over there.

Pyrrah-Vos~ “We’ll toss out a little magic, see if it rattles them, alright? If it goes to shit, well, we’ll go from there…”

Theneras narrowed his eyes a little, not liking the implication that things could go to shit- but obviously it wasn’t exactly avoidable. He took in a deep breath and opened his mouth.

Theneras- “WE SEE YOU. SCRAM.”

He yelled out, followed by a series of barks to- just in case- make the intruder think there were a pack of ravage dogs with them. Somehow. Up on the rocks. He looked to Pyrrah hurriedly and urged him to do some magic show on top- and the chaser looked exasperated before he tossed a ‘little magic’ out, like he had suggested.

The supposed trespasser had evidently heard the sounds, looking around as if it weren’t directed to him, earning a loud ‘YEAH YOU, FREAK–’ from Theneras. They scampered off very quickly into the shadows and, somehow, they had ‘saved’ the day.

Theneras is not so intimidating as he thinks he is.

Draw or write your Reosean's response to this intrusion. Will they skillfully subdue the intruder with quiet efficiency, or does the situation escalate into a full blown brawl?
