“What’s going on?” Furor’s voice sounded distorted and almost reflected the pain that was shooting through her head.

Kaimana and Cheiro were experiencing the same thing. It was unpleasant and as the crystal cave around them warped into a vision of an empty Roenden village the pain only seemed to increase.

“I know this… place,” Kaimana’s ethereal voice seemed all the more chilling when distorted by the memory.

“No,” Cheiro winced, “I don’t want to relive this day.”

As if to say it was too late, their present-day voices were silenced as they watched a painful memory replay before them. Probably like many siblings, they shared many memories, however, unlike some siblings, these three held many unsavory and dark memories. The memory that was pulled forward was one that held different meanings for each of them.

Cheiro watched as she and her younger sisters practiced their flying above a village they thought was abandoned. In this age, they were warned to avoid humans because the relationship between humans and empyrians was strained. However, on this day, they were excited and weren’t thorough with their checks.

The day started joyfully, and they each managed to get a hang of flying. In the short hours of the morning, they started to become more confident with their flying as they started to goof around. They knocked each other with their wings or tried to grab at each other, but all in good fun.

It was Furor who fell first.

They weren’t sure what happened. Kaimana and Cheiro watched as their youngest sister seemingly fell out of the sky. They didn’t see anything hit her nor did they see her falter in the air. It was as if she fainted and dropped out of the sky. However, much to their horror they saw humans gathering below, cheering.

The people didn’t seem to make a move to catch Furor, they were simply excited they managed to hit an empyrian with what the sisters could only describe at the time as invisible magic.

Kaimana was next.

However, before she fell, she was blinded by a surge of power brought forth by the anger she felt. Her sister was still falling and it was her intention to catch her. Ribbons of runes ripped away from Kaimana’s body and surged forward to catch Furor. It was an act to save her sister, nothing else.

Except.

From the perspective of fearful people below, Kaimana’s white body, nearly glowing in the sun with the glowing ribbons rippling around her body, looked like a frightening monster. And when those lines of magic shot toward Furor, they thought it was an attack on them. So they retaliated.

The magic of the humans was a clean hit. The magic weaving around Kaimana dissolved as she joined her sister in a deathly descent.

Cheiro was frozen. She was the eldest, but still, they were all so young. She couldn’t understand what she was watching. When she witnessed Kaimana discover her spark she felt a shot of joy before it came crashing down much like her sister in that moment. It was all happening so quickly, that Cheiro could hardly process everything that was happening.

However, one thing she knew was that she was stronger than the humans.

Unlike her sisters, Cheiro at this point in her life had already discovered her spark. The only issue was her control, but in the moment that was the last thing on her mind. Without waiting for another second, Cheiro unleashed whatever darkness called to her in magic.

As the shadowy darkness began blotching out the sky, Furor’s eyes opened. She couldn’t feel her limbs, but she was conscious enough to know she was falling to her death. Though, she couldn’t focus on that when she witnessed the black sky. She saw Kaimana was also falling which only meant one thing, Cheiro was attempting to save them both.

Cheiro’s unstable magic sliced through the sky in the form of crows or distorted reapers. These shadows descended on the humans to act as a distraction. They seemed to be powered by whichever emotion she used to conjure them. In this moment, it would have been fear and anger. So while Cheiro attempted to save her sisters, her shadows were causing nothing short of devastation in the village below.

The three sisters, in various states of awareness, could hear the horrifying screams of the people below them. However, Cheiro hardly could care as she held her wings close to her and propelled herself towards Furor. She managed to grab Furor with her lower limbs and made her way to catch Kaimana on her back. As expected, the weight was too much, but Cheiro pushed through. While she couldn’t fly, she managed to land them.

Screams surrounded them.

“Evil!” One person screamed when Cheiro landed.

Cheiro didn’t react. She focused on her two younger sisters. She was relieved to see Furor conscious enough to sit up.

“Get them!” Another shouted.

Cheiro nudged Kaimana, but there was no response. Before either Furor or Cheiro could try to wake her again. Magical chains wrapped around Furor. Furor looked up in shock and attempted to pull the chains away with Cheiro’s help, but it was no use.

Cheiro’s red eyes glared at the people as she inadvertently redirected her shadows to attack them. Her shadowed creatures cut down the ones holding Furor. It was at this moment that Kaimana began to move. She sat up in time to see another set of chains slicing through the air towards them all.

These chains weaved around Cheiro and seemed to inhibit her magic. As the chains coiled around her, the shadows faded away as her consciousness did. Kaimana and Furor lunged at her as her body hit the snow. The people cheered, thinking they were safe.

While Furor attempted to pull the chains away from Cheiro, Cheiro weakly knocked her claws away.

‘Run’, Cheiro’s voice echoed in Furor and Kaimana’s heads.

Kaimana, on the other hand, had no intention of leaving her eldest sister there. She whipped out her newfound magic with uncontrolled rage as she slaughtered most of the humans in the area. The screams of terror returned as the people called for someone to get reinforcements.

‘Back down,’ a commanding power ripped through Kaimana’s head causing her magic to dissolve as she gripped her head. Furor felt the power too and was reduced to a whimpering empyrian.

The war vayron that appeared looked cold, but Cheiro attempted to weakly communicate the mistake.

‘It’s a mistake,’ Cheiro whispered back.

The war vayron and their knight were unphased by Cheiro’s plea. The pair gave orders for the three sisters to be chained and caged. Cheiro was drained from the chains already around her, but she felt a surge of desperation when she heard the orders. Furor and Kaimana had yet to be fully chained, so while Cheiro was fighting to get out of hers she cried for her sisters to fly away.

However, unknown to Cheiro, the war vayron had the other two sisters immobilized with their power. Cheiro watched as the knights roughly chained each of her sisters before they were all shoved into individual cages. Helpless.

The Caregivers Clan: PROMPT 1 > OPTION 2 >

You're forcefully thrust into a memory, the impact feeling like a plunge into a stormy sea. The memory assaults your senses, leaving you disoriented and tense. Panic sets in as you struggle to comprehend where and when you are.

Draw or write the memory your reosean has been thrust into. It should not be a happy one. Are they in the midst of a bloody battle, heart pounding and red in their eyes, or perhaps they're wading through a tragic time in their life? Or have they done something that they regret, something that still lives on in their thoughts?
