[Forgotten] Prompt 3

Even with Herja’s unique take on negotiation, it was clear in her tone she didn’t really care. Garmr made it clear from the get-go that he would prefer to fight and the more the Haedians listened to Herja the more it seemed like a fight was likely. Alowyn had to wonder if Herja’s need to fight was creeping into her words, intentionally making things much worse. Alowyn’s thoughts were all but confirmed when she saw Herja and Garmr share a smirk.

“Herja,” Alowyn groaned, “Seriously?”

Herja let a sinister smile grace her face as she acknowledged Alowyn’s words.

“Yes!” Garmr laughed as he let his fur melt away revealing a hellhound-like vayron. He was only blackened bones with fire and lava in the shape of a Vayron. The more weak-willed Haedians gasped and retreated before the fight even started. Neither Alowyn nor Herja were surprised.

Alowyn hadn’t seen Herja’s magic to its full extent and she feared it was going to be something like Garmr’s. However, much to her mild relief, when Herja kicked on her magic it was just fire that coiled around her shoulder like a snake. The fire didn’t burn or touch Herja as it flickered around her shoulders and back. Alowyn didn’t want to fight, so she tried to placate the group of angry Haedians.

“Look at them,” Alowyn urged to the Haedians, “Let’s not fight.”

“We’ve seen worse,” A Haedian barked with laughter.

The remaining larger Haedians all got into position. The reoseans prepared to fight all circled each other in an attempt to gather information on their respective opponents. Alowyn remained in the center with her eyes closed. She listened to everyone while she also desperately searched for enough roots and plants to stop everyone.

“Wyn, get out of the way,” Herja snarled.

Alowyn was brief surprised by the new nickname, but moved out of the way slowly. She kept her eyes closed as she gathered more and more roots. She asked them to come closer to the fight and wait. The roots she had gathered remained hidden at the feet of the battle-ready reoseans. Herja and Garmr were too preoccupied to realize what Alowyn was planning.

Shocking absolutely no one, Garmr launched himself at the Haedians first. His mass of fire flew toward one of the larger Haedians. His claws tore through the wing while he clamped down on the Haedian’s neck. The Haedian roared and grabbed one of Garmr’s legs. Garmr was surprised, he had forgotten about the advantage these tyrians had compared to the ones he was used to. Garmr focused some of his fire to concentrate on his legs causing the Haedian to scream and release Garmr.

Herja and the other Haedians followed suit while Garmr warred with the large Haedian. Herja slammed her body into another Haedian while her fire weaved through the group burning any Haedian that got too close. Her power made the fight seem unfair, but the Haedians didn’t back off. They adjusted to her magic’s erratic movement and managed to land the odd hit on her. Herja would try a different combo of fire to through them off, but these Haedians were resilient and adapted quickly.

The fight between the two vayrons and Haedians carried on while Alowyn continued to plan her involvement. She needed enough plants to capture everyone, if one was free it would be an unfair fight for whoever was tied up. She was nearly ready and when she opened her eyes to gauge the situation she was shocked. Herja was taking at least five large Haedians, while the largest was one-on-one with Garmr. Every time one of the reoseans got knocked down, Alowyn would cringe.

“Come on,” Alowyn whispered urgently to herself, “nearly there.”

Alowyn watched her companions bounce off the Haedians, landing in a heap, only to jump back up and attack again. Alowyn needed this all to end. She took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and reached as far as she could gathering the last of the roots she needed. Her eyes snapped open as she called for action.

The warring Reoseans came to stand still as thick roots shot out of the ground and wrapped around everyone’s limbs. If someone was in the air, the roots held them there. No one moved and the only thing heard for a few seconds was everyone’s heavy breathing.

“Right,” Alowyn started as she weaved through the crowd, “We’re going to go. Sorry for the trouble.”

Garmr growled and tried to spit fire at Alowyn.

“Alowyn, we had them,” Herja joined her partner’s frustration.

“Sure, but we can just leave too,” Alowyn said calmly.

“What are you going to do now?” Garmr sneered, “Because once you let me out, I’m attacking them.”

Alowyn sighed and looked at Herja, “You too?”

Herja looked between her partner and Alowyn before she spoke, “No, you can let me down.”

Alowyn nodded and dropped the root that held Herja. Garmr growled and spewed nonsense about being betrayed. Herja tried to get him to see reason, but there was nothing she could do besides knock him unconscious. When Alowyn was sure he wasn’t going to be a threat she released him.

“Quickly,” Alowyn said as she flew away from this clan. Herja followed with Garmr floating in the air behind her.

When they were near the Forgotten clan, Alowyn’s magic was dispelled. They met up with Cailu and explained what happened. Cailu didn’t look too excited about the turn of events, and Alowyn shared the sentiment when he told them that the Brutes’ were the next clan to visit.
