Watchers Clan: Sisters 2

“Well done,” A voice from the shadows spoke.

“Not quite a win,” Another voice added, “but impressive nonetheless.”

A third voice continued, “We have another task for you. Follow us this way.”

Cheiro made a disgruntled noise before answering the shadows, “We can’t see which way.”

The three sisters stood in silence, but there was no answer.

“Over there!” Kaimana pointed as she saw a flash of bright eyes.

Kaimana didn’t hesitate or wait for her sisters as she leaped after the eyes. Cheiro and Furor weren’t far behind her after they heard her exclamation. The three sisters went through the dark tunnel and every so often they would see the bright eyes flash letting them know they were going in the right direction. Until, finally, they came to an outpost-looking structure.

“Stay here and watch the entrances,” One of the three voices from earlier said.

“Someone will relieve you in the morning,” another voice added.

Silence filled the space around the sisters and they could only assume that meant they were on their own or that the Haedians of this clan had gone back to observing them. The three Empyrians looked around the dark area, they could barely make out the openings to the tunnels below them.

“This is going to be a long night,” Furor said, getting comfortable.

“You don’t think anything will happen?” Kaimana asked, sitting next to her sister.

“Nope,” She replied with a pop on the ‘p’, “For all the trouble we went through to get here, I can’t imagine there’s much trespassing.”

Furor rested her head on the ground, letting her eyes flutter shut.

“We still need to stay vigilant,” Cheiro snapped at her youngest sibling.

Furor opened one to look at Cheiro, “Wake me if I’m needed.” She closed her eyes and ignored her sisters as she fell asleep.

Cheiro glared at the younger empyrian, but let her be and turned to keep an eye on the entrances. Kaimana followed her example and sat next to her while they watched the dark cave in silence.

Hours seemed to pass and nothing had happened. Kaimana grew bored and started to pick at the rocks around them carving patterns into the surface. Cheiro had to admit that Furor might have been on to something when her eyes began to droop. However, she fought the urge and remained strong as she watched the shadows.

At some point, Furor woke up and noticed her sisters were obviously bored. Kiamana’s picture or scribbles on the wall had only grown and Cheiro kept shifting in an attempt to stay awake. Furor rolled her eyes at their stubbornness and tried to sleep again, but she was well-rested. With a huff, she sat up bringing her sisters’ attention to her.

“This is boring,” Furor mumbled, feeling wide awake.

“You slept this whole time, how can you be bored?” Cheiro growled, but Furor ignored her.

“Why don’t we play a game to pass the time?” Kaimana offered.

Furor perked up and asked, “What game?”

Kaimana explained the simple game of who could throw the pebbles the furthest, well really it wasn’t a game just something to eat up time. She piled a few pebbles and started flicking them into the darkness. She kept one eye on the entrances, but it had been so long that she doubted anything was coming.

“That’s not a game,” Furor protested but started flicking her pebbles off the edge too. She wasn’t taking the watching job seriously. She focused on the noises her rocks made when they landed to judge how far they went playing the ‘game’ on her own.

“Seriously?” Cheiro bristled watching her sisters goof around.

“Chill out,” Furor snickered, “Maybe getting some sleep would help.”

Cheiro, at the mention of sleep, became even more aware of her eyes attempting to shut. However, she was determined not to fall asleep and normally that wouldn’t be a problem, but they had been traveling non-stop. The fatigue was catching up with her.

“Just rest,” Kaimana said, “I’m keeping an eye on things, sleep. We can rotate if it makes you feel any better.”

Cheiro wasn’t eager to accept the idea, but her body had other plans as she laid down falling asleep immediately.

Not a minute later Furor, with a glint in her eye, said, “Should I wake her up by faking a problem?”

Kaimana shot her sister a look, and replied, “Let her be.”

The night passed without any problems. Cheiro and Kaimana took turns watching or sleeping, while Furor continued doing whatever kept her mind occupied. She had tried multiple times to mess with whichever sister was sleeping but was stopped every time. The only indication the sisters had that it was morning was when a voice broke the silence that encased them.

“You can head back to where you were,” The disembodied voice whispered.

The sisters didn’t question it and made their way back to the platform they found yesterday.

The Watchers Clan: Prompt 1  > OPTION 2 >

The race was difficult, but you made it through. Your initiation isn't over yet though. The clan maintains a network of lookout posts in high vantage points throughout their territory, offering panoramic views of the underground realm and alerting them to any potential threats. Your task now is to spend a night at one of these positions, serving as a watch.

Draw or write your Reosean at the vantage point. Are they careful about their job, or more careless? Do they have trouble staying awake?

Furor 9894
Kaimana 14232
