Watchers Clan: Sisters 1

“They’re above us,” Furor said.

Cheiro and Kaimana whipped to stare at their youngest sister.

“How do you know?” Kaimana asked.

Furor sighed, “I can hear them?”

Cheiro gasped and the realization hit Kaimana shortly after. They both forgot that she was blind. She always moved as if she could see that it was easy for them to forget. Furor scoffed as if she heard their inner thoughts, but decided to let it die, choosing to fly up into the ceiling instead of engaging. Cheiro and Kaimana followed seconds later.

It was incredibly cramped as the sisters all stood on their own platform like rock. However, they looked to Furor to potentially guide them through the darkness. Furor used a constant magic that created a silent noise, to anyone else, that bounced around the space around her. It worked like echolocation, the magic bounced back to Furor letting her know how far something was or what was around.

Cheiro felt eyes on her, but she couldn’t see anyone. Except, she squinted into the dark, and saw a couple of flecks reflecting light back at her. Eyes. Someone was definitely watching them.

“Hello?” Cheiro called. Kaimana and Furor looked to their eldest sister, and they all waited for an answer.

A timid voice replied from the shadows, “Let’s race. Continue the way you're facing, we’ll meet there if you can win.”

Cheiro squinted into the dark again, but this time the eyes were gone. The three sisters were surrounded by silence.

Kaimana sighed, “Well, let’s go. We have to move.”

Furor nodded and quickly jumped from rock to rock. She couldn’t move as quickly as she wanted to because there were long stalactites hanging from the ceiling. Eventually, she reached an area where her vision showed there wasn’t any platform for her to jump to. She tried to stretch her wings but there wasn’t enough space.

Cheiro and Kaimana had their wisp forms. They both felt their bodies shift into this smaller form. Kaimana’s form gave way to a small amount of light that would allow Cheiro to see a bit clearer. The black and white wisps weaved together bouncing down the path Furor had gone. It was only when they reached Furor’s spot that they snapped to their full forms. Pausing next to her.

“What’s wrong?” Kaimana asked.

“The gap is too large for me to jump,” Furor mumbled.

Cheiro’s answer came quickly, “Climb.”

Kaimana and Furor didn’t say anything, they gave their sister a confused look.

Cheiro sighed, “Like how I was traveling through the first couple of clans.”

Cheiro demonstrated as she crawled across the ceiling. Digging her nails into the rocky walls she moved confidently until she spotted a ridge to wait on.

“I can’t do that!” Furor shouted, “I don’t have the extra arms.”

“You can try,” Cheiro replied simply.

Kaimana shrugged her shoulders before returning to her ghost form and slipping into the shadows away from Furor and toward Cheiro.

Furor grumbled but did her best to follow Cheiro’s example. She wasn’t as coordinated as Cheiro, but Furor managed to fumble her way across the gap. When she settled next to Cheiro on the platform she sighed with relief.

“See, you could do it.” Cheiro said, “Now let’s go, we have to be quick.”

Cheiro melted into the darkness of the tunnels as she effortlessly bounced from rock to rock. Furor growled with the frustration she always felt when she was with her sisters like this. In moments like this, she could easily feel the power difference between them. Furor bristled as they zipped ahead of her.

Furor quickly refocused her energy taking the frustration and redirecting it to move quickly along the walls. She tried Cheiro’s method and eventually became very proficient. There were a few moments where she would slip and need to collect herself. However, before long she managed to catch up to her sisters.

“How far does this go?” Kaimana gasped. Her magic was draining, she didn’t like to use it for long.

“I don’t know,” Cheiro replied, “But we have to keep going.”

Furor didn’t pause when she came across her sisters. She was focused and maintained her pace as she raced along the wall past them. Cheiro spotted her, feeling the same drain Kaimana was, and quickly joined her younger sister. The pair quickly maneuvered across the uneven ceiling and wall.

Kiamana watched them disappear further into the tunnel. She didn’t want to crawl on the wall, so instead she continued leaping from platform to floating rocks to whatever surface she could manage. It wasn’t easy, given her muscles were more accustomed to flying but she grit her teeth and carried on.

Kaimana caught up to her sisters as they reached an opening. It was larger than the tunnels, at this point they all could fly, but there were also different paths that branched off from this area. It was clear they had no way to know which was the right path.

“I guess we can wait?” Furor mumbled.

“Hello?” Cheiro called into the darkness again when she spotted a few pairs of eyes watching them from the shadows.

The Watchers Clan: PROMPT 1 >

Solitude often lends some prejudice against this clan, but they don’t seem to be too bothered by it. Most of the Watchers are very observant so they aren’t likely to believe strangers' words without action. They hide along pathways they’ve carved out, jumping from platform to platform. Beating them at their own game seems to be the best way to earn their respect.

Draw or write your Reosean in a contest of leaping through the cave’s pathways. Tyrians may fly, but find issues with the tight tunnels and low visibility. Vayrons may perhaps hitch a ride from a Haedian and help guide them through the course. However you choose to take this path, it is important to impress these careful listeners.
