Tranquil Clan: Sisters 3

“Something’s wrong,” Furor was the first to voice her concern, looking at her sisters’ eyes glow strongly even though they had all finished their spells.

Cheiro grunted and stared at a pebble by her lower claw, trying to focus. Kaimana smiled as she felt the surge of strength flowing through her. Kaimana was excited by the thought of more power and she knew Furor felt the same, but the concern Furor expressed had Kaimana confused.

“What’s the issue, Furor?” Kaimana asked with a clear voice. “You’ve always been after this kind of power.”

Furor knew what her sister was saying. She had fought both Cheiro and Kaimana in an effort to become stronger, but this felt different, foreign. Furor looked at Kaimana and shook her head.

“I’m not in control,” Furor grunted through clenched teeth.

As if to make a point, fog burst from Furor’s body surrounding them in black. Cheiro lost sight of her focal point and gasped.

Kiamana heard Cheiro’s exclamation and turned in her direction, “What, is our almighty sister struggling as well?” Her voice dripped with sarcasm.

Kaimana accepted the fog that surrounded her, she had no issues navigating her sister’s magic. However, it surprised her that both of her sisters seemed overwhelmed with the energy. She could vaguely make out some of the flickering crystals in the area, feeling their energy swarm her. She thought that it was their resistance to it all. Kaimana felt the energy flow through her without any restraint.

A dark blur knocked Kaimana out of her thoughts. She grunted with the impact.

“Cheiro!” She shouted, “Control your magic.”

Cheiro’s reply came out stunted, “I’m. Trying.”

Kaimana shook her head. She glanced at Cheiro to see her magic had doubled, two shadows were swirling around her. Kaimana suddenly realized that it looked like Cheiro’s magic was turning in on itself, onto her. In a white blur, Kaimana rushed to her side.

Cheiro could vaguely hear her name being called, but it was drowned out by screams. She could see the tendrils of her black magic swarming her vision. The only time this had ever happened was when she first discovered her spark. It was a moment like this, pure chaos.

Cheiro squinted through the fog and her fading vision. She saw Furor curled in a ball with an endless fog releasing from her body, but quickly she felt sharp claws on her face. Her face was dragged to look at Kaimana. Even through Cheiro's tunnel vision, she could see her sister glow an ethereal white. She was overloading too, but it didn’t seem to bother her.

Kaimana ignored her youngest sister for the moment, choosing to deal with them one by one.

“Help,” Cheiro whispered and in the next instance, Kaimana had her ribbons of runes spinning above Cheiro’s head. Kaimana was shocked at how quickly they appeared, but she knew it was the extra power she felt right now.

Furor was curled into the fetal position with her eyes glued shut. She felt the crystal’s energy coursing through her and it was almost painful, like her body wasn’t meant to do this kind of magic. She was vaguely aware of Cheiro and Kaimana, but it was difficult to pay attention to anything but her own pain.

Kaimana briefly looked at Furor but then refocused on Cheiro. It only took a few more moments before Cheiro’s rigid body relaxed. Kaimana sighed with relief and then flew to Furor.

Cheiro was still in the middle of her own magic, she could hear the laughter and screams, but the tendrils blocking her vision slowly receded. She could see Kaimana vanishing and reappearing next to Furor. She wondered if Kaimana even noticed the way she was moving. As she watched Kaimana help Furor, the fog around them began to fade. Cheiro focused on her sisters as she tried to work through the rest of her extra magic.

Furor clawed at the earth as she heard her sister call her.

“Furor, please,” Kaimana whispered. Despite the pain, Furor thought for a moment that the politeness her sister displayed was out of character. Furor didn’t hear her sister mumble a spell before she was surrounded by a blinding white light. When it faded it seemed to take the pain and her fog with it.

The area around the sisters had cleared. They all looked around at each other.

“Isn’t it incredible?” Kaimana smiled at them, “We are so much stronger.”

“Uh, you saw what happened to us,” Cheiro whispered, staying where she was.

Kaimana rolled her eyes, “just don’t fight it. Let the energy flow, don’t try to control it.”

Furor laughed, but it came out as a cough, “I’m shocked you managed before us.”

Kaimana glared and was about to chastise them, but Cheiro beat her by saying, “Thank you.”

Furor followed with her own ‘thank you’. Kaimana smiled ever so slightly and went back to her excited chatter about the new strength.

“Look at you, Cheiro, you have two little shadows now.” Kaimana directed everyone’s attention to the two black smoking balls that whirled around Cheiro. Cheiro shuttered but wondered if the power would stay with them or if it was only in this area.

“And how about you?” Cheiro returned, “You move in the blink of an eye.”

“And you didn’t need to speak to enact one of your restraint spells,” Furor added.

Kaimana’s pride swelled with all the recognition, but briefly the same thought crossed her mind. Would this last?

Furor mumbled about how her power didn’t seem to evolve at all, she only was out of control. Cheiro and Kaimana reminded her that she was young and probably hadn't explored the full capabilities of her magic yet.

“Either way, we need to move on.” Furor sighed, “We’ve caused more trouble than we’ve helped.”

Kaimana and Cheiro cringed but agreed. The three sisters slowly got to their feet. It was only then that they realized the groups they were helping and Pyrri was nowhere to be seen. They contemplated trying to find Pyrri, but quickly concluded it would be better to just leave.

The Tranquil Clan: PROMPT 1  > OPTION 2 > OPTION 2

Even as a master of magic yourself, you feel a strange surge of energy run through you. You notice the crystals around the cavern interfering with your magic and possibly making it stronger.

Draw or write your reosean struggling or learning to adapt to this newfound ability. Maybe they are overcome with power unable to control its direction, or they are trying their hardest to keep it contained. Interpretation is up to you!
