“The energy in this metal is perfect for imbuing it with the arcane,” Dhaoragan sorted out multiple crystals on display. “And these crystals work to enhance the capabilities of magical attacks and defenses.” They were purple, with some red and blue hues in the facets, and magic swirling somewhere deep inside. Common for any kind of magical weapon, where it be floating on a staff or inlaid in a dagger. Something Zanril was familiar with for a change.

They will be doing some metalwork for the staff, and the head can hold an intricate design to house the core crystal.  Once again using the dark metal and this time using either gold or silver for the details. Zanril was partial to gold, and Khal gave no objections as she selected the ingots for them to use again. The young Haedian was getting confident in her selections and setting up her tools, so Khal let her do her things, while heating up the smelter for them to start creating the metal staff. Instead of hammering, they’ll be molding the tube-shaped staff handle, and the sun-like head. Zanril’s vision had many fine details on the head, like the swirling rays and crystals placed between them evenly for an elaborate art piece. Khal wasn’t too confident on the details, but the Haedian’s digits may come to good use for the nitpicking.

“Make sure your metal melts evenly, and keep the smelter running hot. This metal is stubborn and will come out uneven in you don’t watch the temperature.” Dhaoragan guided along as the two placed in their ingots and opened the hatch to shovel in coals.

The routine making of the pieces went just about as they had before, with melting, molding, cooling, refining, and finally it came to putting everything together before the head piece was complete. While Zanril was hunched over her gold-carving with a focused look on her face, Khal was sorting out their pieces and clasping things together. The staff began to look like more than just a metal rod, with golden swirls setting into place, and the top and bottom getting gold caps screwed in. Khal gave the staff a few experimental turns and look-overs, before handing it to Dhaoragan for a checkup.

“Very good work you both,” the puller nodded, feeling over the gold inlays. “Nice attention to detail… smooth finish.. The edges have some minor gaps that could break off the inlay down the line, but that isn’t to discredit the effort at all.” Looking at the ends of the staff, his brow pinched in confusion. “And where’s your headpiece?”

Khal nodded over to Zanril, who was working on the sunrays of the piece with a chisel to scrape out the shapes. She wanted swirls, and engravings. There was enough time in the day for her to give it her best effort and she was going to do just that. With her tongue between her teeth, and eyes dry from not blinking, she carved away the shapes she desired.

Something else that remained to be done— while not officially required by the class— was a harness to hold the staff. Khal looked over to Zanril, and her wings, then at the leather worktable. After a moment of thought, the puller walked over to the table with some materials and got the green light from Dhaoragan to begin working on something. Cutting strips, pressing holes, and placing the buckles, he put together straps for the harness. Some wooly fur cut into shape and stitched together with a leather bottom, and attached to the straps, the final piece of the set was completed.

Just in time, too, with Zanril and Dhaoragan working on the staff to put on her headpiece and place the crystals bound to the metal. They took keenly to the staff’s energy and snapped into place where the energy flowed in the metal. A conduit, the rays of gold held small crystal chips between them, levitating like a magnet display. SMiling to herself, Zanril held the staff to the sky and admired her handiwork.

“Here, a finishing touch.” Khal spoke up from behind and Zanril turned to see the harness outstretched on his paw. “Something to carry it with. Should fit around your wings well enough.”

The Haedian blinked, before taking the harness. It wasn’t something she would wear too much, given the fur, but.. “Thank you,” she nodded, and the puller replied in kind, before turning his attention to the staff.

“Fine work, that. The sun looks great.” Khal gave a warm smile, that came off almost fatherly if Zanril had anything to compare it to- like Varrick. Heading inside, Khal left Zanril to admire her work, while he cleaned off the leather workspace inside and gave his goodbyes to Dhaoragan for the day.
