The sound of paws hitting the rocky floor echoed through out the cavern as two bodies moved through the tunnels and back out to the surface. The scarlet and turquoise winged runner leaped over a standing rock pile as the blue and orange haedian ducked around some of the stalagmites.

“What exactly are we looking for again?” The haedian called out, squinting her eyes as they exited the cave now, her paws hitting the grass.

“Any thing that will help is free the Matriarch from the cavern she has been locked away in for who knows how long.” The winged runner shouted back, picking up the pace with the soft earth under his paws again.

“You said there should be some people in a nearby village who can help? Maybe we try there first before going else where.” Another leap over a fallen log along with a near miss of falling in to some thorny bushes.

“Exactly my plan, Deirdre. Gonna be this way!” The runner peeled off towards the edge of the forest, the crunching leaves under his paws.

“Hold up Wassail! I am right behind you!” Deirdre sped up to catch him, gritting her fangs as she breached the forest, seeing the small village ahead of them.

“There. I have a few contacts here who should be able to help gather equipment.”  The scarlet and turquoise runner slowed his pace as they entered the village, soon they were approached by a young male.

“Wassail? How are you? It has been a while!” The platinum blond haired man grinned as he reached out to hold under the runner's head and chin.

“We have been very busy lately, Malachi. All of the Reos who went down have been helping to excavate the Matriarch from the stone she has been in since the great split.” The red and teal runner nudged his friends hand as he motioned towards Deirdre, “I have even brought one of the Haedians to assist in helping look for more hands and paws to make the work go by faster.”

“Hello there, it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance. My name is Deirdre” The blue and orange bowed her head in greetings, while Malachi returned the favor.

“It is a pleasure to meet you too, Deirdre. When Wassail came through during the very beginnings of this epic well, I was hesitant to learn of an older species. But seeing you all now, it is amazing that you all survived down there without much knowledge of what was happening above.” Malachi’s sapphire blue eyes shown with excitement as he spoke with her.

“Thank you, again… Learning about everything up here has been wonderful.” Deirdre smiled, her large ears drooping a bit with excitement.

“Mal, do you know if the others are around? We could probably use their help too, she is even larger than the Elder.” Wassail gave a small chuckle to which the haedian also followed suit.

“Oh! Yes! Let us go find them, and tell them.” The human started to walk off, more like jog off, in the direction of more houses.

They passed by a couple different locations, the tinging of the blacksmith working on some equipment, the bleating of sheep that were in a fenced pasture. Before coming up to another house. Malachi knocked on the door which promptly opened up to show a darker skinned male whose hair was up in a corn row bun.

“Ayo Mal. Whos your friends?” They spoke in a relaxed manner, leaning on the door frame.

“Heyo, Jazzy. This is Wassail, you've met him briefly before, and the haedian is Deirdre. They actually came to get help to excavate the Matriarch from the under ground system she's been trapped in.” Malachi smiled as Jazz went in for a hug.

“An excavation you say huh? Prowler may be able to pull some strings to get that construction gang that follows him around to help out too, the more the merrier aint that right?” The dark skinned male barked out a laugh.

“Absolutely, yes, she is so close to breaking free we are hoping it is soon.” The Haedian gave a smile as she bowed her head towards the new male.

“Thank you, Mal. I am sure that this construction crew will be able to help us be safer too in the long run.” The red and teal runner grinned as they made their way from the house down to the middle of the village, stopping at another building.

“This is where Prowler works Ill go get him if you dont mind waiting out here?” Jazz offered.

“Sure, yeah, we’ll wait.” Wassail nodded, sitting and curling his tail around himself.

“Of course. Take the time you need to sort your affairs.” The blue and orange haedian smiled, watching the two humans walk their way into the building.

Maybe, just maybe, they can actually get this done soon.
